Last night I went to a little benefit concert / performance thingy with Jon Stewart, John Hodgman, a few other writers, Jonathan Coulton, David Byrne, Sufjan Stevens performed as well. It was to raise money for the 826 organization, a group dedicated to promoting, teaching and tutoring creative writing and thinking in major urban areas across the country. Their front here in NYC is the Superhero Supply Company, behind a secret door lies a full tutoring center staffed almost entirely by volunteers. One in California hides behind the Pirate Supply Shop, and another specializes in Space Travel Supplies.

    So if you have some extra scratch you don’t want to donate to me, I guess you might as well make some kids happy… also their “fronts” are actual shops with actual products, the proceeds go right back to the organization.
