Paris 09 – Day 2/3

EXIT opening

Day 2 in Paris. Stomach flu setting in made enjoying anything much harder. Lots of moaning and groaning and making funny faces, but I was still able to make it to the opening of EXIT and have a good time.

EXIT opening - heart wallI took over the restaurant area of the exhibit which is right on the main floor with huge windows out to the plaza. It’s a great space.

EXIT Opening - inside walls

The walls were huge and flowed well into one another across the space. All the bright colors reflected on surfaces of tables, floors and ceilings adding to the fun.

A slide show of work played in the lobby area.

The walls can be seen on the left, with the main exhibit doors on the right.

Today we arrived bright and early following an overnight flight from NYC. We got a nice behind the scenes look at the EXIT festival exhibits in mid-construction. Here are a few quick photos from my walls as they are hung and lighting is adjusted…

Event Reminders!

- I will be at the “New England Webcomics Weekend” this Saturday/Sunday up in MA. The event quickly booked up, so I look forward to seeing everyone who managed to register in time!

- Then it is off to Paris! The EXIT festival opens on the 26th of March and features 16 monster themed installations along with plenty of music and performances.

- Finally, I will be signing things and meeting people at ARTOYZ, Paris on the evening of the 28th from 4-6pm.

Love Dragon? Sounds dirty.

Today I was working with my own spin on a traditional damask pattern that I like for a wall installation at the VIA and EXIT festivals in France. Here is a version of it that is part dragon, part shaggy dog, and a whole lot of love.

You could set it as a desktop, but you will probably go blind. Here is a larger and less contrasty version for such uses.

so many creatures!

I’m working on some art for some walls that will be on display at the VIA festival in Maubeuge (Northern France) early March and then at the EXIT festival in Paris suburb Creteil later in the month. I had to vectorize a bunch of artwork, this is what my illustrator file looks like when I turn all my layers on. This has nothing to do with the final layout, I just thought it was fun! back to work!

EXIT Festival

MAC presents Festival EXIT 09, a celebration of art, theater, dance and music held in Creteil, near Paris, France.

This year they are proud to present NEW FREAKS, featuring exhibitions and installations of monsters and more created by artists from around the world. New York based artist Andrew Bell presents several large custom printed wall panels filled with his creature creations. The artist will be around the festival for a few days, maybe you will run into him!
