Wild Sube roundup (Part 1/2)

Now that most of the Wild Sube prints are all drawn and away, I thought I would share a roundup of a few while I play post-comic-con catch up! I drew 30 different faces, here are a few highlights, with a few more coming tomorrow.

Please Draw With Me `09

Greetings from sunny San Diego at the 2009 International Comic-Con!

PDWM!

Every year I do hundreds of little doodles and signings on sketchpads, notecards, body parts.. Not that it isn’t fun, but I have to admit that it can get a little tedious. In an effort to alleviate some of that I have devised a fun new project for this years convention!

Please Draw With Me? is a collaborative sketch card! Instead of me taking your notebook and drawing whatever I can eek out of my overworked overstimulated con mind, I want to create an original piece of collaborative artwork with the fans, not just for them! The instructions are as follow:

1. Draw a few lines / squiggles on the reverse side of this card.
2. Find artist Andrew Bell (he’s the pale one with glasses).
3. Hand him this card, wait patiently as he adds to your lines.
4. Take card back, celebrate collaborative art piece, high fives.

Participate in Please Draw With Me at:

Thursday, July 23rd, 4pm-5pm
DKE, Booth #4732

Saturday, July 25th, 1pm-2pm
Cardboard Spaceship, Booth #4521

Ongoing, July 23rd-July 26th
Dumbrella, Booth #1335

Milo and Ditch (part 3/3)

This is part 3 of the work in progress of Milo and Ditch, part 1 is here and part 2 is here!

Milo and Ditch WIP
Ditch’s solid airbrushed base coat gets a clear coat to seal it up. This protects the base blue from my inevitable clumsy handling and paint splattering, mistakes can be wiped up without ruining the blue.

Milo and Ditch (part 2/3)

This is part 2 of the work in progress of Milo and Ditch, part 1 is here!

Milo and Ditch WIP
I moved over to Illustrator to mock up some of the more detailed areas. I did some research on incredibly colorful poison dart frogs to help inspire a back design for Ditch.

Milo and Ditch (part 1/3)

A few months back, MINDstyle and Disney teamed up to launch Experiment 626, an international tour of customized Stitch vinyl figures from a wide variety of artists. Due to my schedule I was only able to recently crack open the big box of Stitch that had been sitting in my studio for months. Fortunately my piece is finally done, and will be joining many fine pieces in the tour in San Diego at the International Comic Con next week!

I figured this was a good opportunity to give you a quick behind the scenes look at my piece, “Milo and Ditch”.

Milo and Ditch WIP
First we start off with a nice piece of clean white rotocast vinyl direct from MINDStyle. Stitch is about about 11″ tall (with ears!).

I’ve donated an older piece or two for the first Viva LA Art charity event! Proceeds benefit the Children’s Law Center (CLC) in Los Angeles.
