Welcome to Print Club, Goodbye.

Andrew Bell Print Club

The first rule of Print Club is don’t talk about Print Club… unless you were on the newsletter mailing list yesterday, where I announced the new subscription club for prints. Unfortunately for everyone else (and a few slow responders) the 30 membership slots sold out very quickly!

In case you missed out on membership, many of the club release prints will also be available to non-members in the Dead Zebra shop! After the first 6 months I will consider expanding the club if all goes well!

Here is a peek at the first print that will be shipping in February, I’ll post again when it is available in the shop!

Frozen Final

frozen empire mad*l print

Prints are all done! Edition of 50 giclee prints on 51lb archival matte. 5″x7″ with deckled style edges, signed and numbered (or at least they will be soon!)

I’ll have half of them at New York Comic-Con in a recession special bailout bundle. You get the Frozen Empire MAD*L vinyl figure and a matching print for $40, only $2.50 more than the toy itself normally retails for.

Already have a MAD*L, or just want the print? The rest of them will be up on the Dead Zebra Shop a few days after the con for around $20 each.

toomanymonsters

so many creatures!

I’m working on some art for some walls that will be on display at the VIA festival in Maubeuge (Northern France) early March and then at the EXIT festival in Paris suburb Creteil later in the month. I had to vectorize a bunch of artwork, this is what my illustrator file looks like when I turn all my layers on. This has nothing to do with the final layout, I just thought it was fun! back to work!

Melty Madness

Frozen Empire MADL with print

Happy Lunar New Year! Here’s to a prosperous 4707, 4706 or 4646, depending on how you count!

I’m going to have a handful of my Frozen Empire MAD*L figures at New York Comic Con in February so I’m working up a print to go along with the signed figures. It’ll be a 5″x7″ print, edition of about 30-50 depending on how much time I get before the show! Artwork view after the jump!

“Rocket Rider” progress

012209-rocketprogress

Here’s a little animated version of progress from the 7th anniversary drawing! I’ll do a few of these now and then as people have often asked me to see progress. Here’s a quick breakdown:
- sketch in notebook (not shown)
- re-draw sketch bigger in pencil, scan
- bring into Illustrator, reduce opacity
- draw basic lines on top of sketch
- do basic fills, refine lines
- position, work on line weights and basic colors
- add shading, final colors, line work, background, etc
(this part takes the longest!)

7 Years!

7 Years of Creatures!

Out with the old and in with the new! Today not only marks the first full day of a new administration here in the good ole US of A, but it also marks 7 years of creature madness! It’s been a fun ride and it keeps getting better! Many thanks to all of you who have supported me financially, emotionally and bacon-ally over the years.

Hey there is a new site!

Speaking of in with the new, you may have noticed the entirely new site! Most of the content from the old site made it over, except for a few of the comments on old blog entries and some extra features here and there. I am still working out some of the kinks, moving things around, breaking things, fixing things, and adding new things so please bear with me.

Many many huge mega-thanks to my friend Chrispian for his database porting magic and constant code help. Also thanks to Kelly at deepliquid for reasons that you will see in a week or so.

I know the new format will take some getting used to, but I think in time everyone will agree that it is much better. This new format will allow me to post more often while simultaneously being able to spend more time on individual projects. Instead of rushing to finish a new creature drawing all the time, I will be sharing more behind-the-scenes work and works in progress as I focus more on larger and more involved projects.

This will be a site that you can check several times a day for updates, instead of once every other day like it was! Creature fans need not worry though, there will still be some good ole black and white monsters added regularly.
